6) Cats are most active at dawn and dusk. An indoor cat lost outside often doesn’t respond to his owner’s voice because of fear. Walking around at these times shining a flash light in potential hiding places can pick up the light reflection from the cat’s eyes.
7) Notify the Humane Society of Westchester (914-632-2925) to file a lost pet report and get a loaner trap from them. Putting out a trap is the fastest and best way to find your cat.
8) Notify any workmen who were in the area to check for your cat. If there are new workers, check inside and underneath all of the work men’s cars and trucks before they leave.
9) Put an article of clothing that smells like you outside.
10) Check under decks, under rocks, in wood piles in garages, children’s play houses, sheds, windows wells, in barbecue set ups and under lawn furniture covers to find the cat. The cat is likely to be hiding nearby.
11) If feasible leave your house door open about 8” so that cat can walk in. Leave food and water outside the door if you are not trying to trap the cat . I think trapping is the best to try as soon as possible. Cats know the sound of the garage door opening and closing and this may attract it.
12) Shake a bag of your cat’s food or treats as you walk calling for it.
13) Post "lost pet" flyers. Make sure to include a photo of your pet, any distinctive information such as color, markings, etc. and your contact information. Post the flyers in your neighborhood, at veterinary offices, pet supply stores, groomers and other businesses. Post by schools, houses of worship. Tape a flyer to your mail box and to the under side of you garbage pail cover.
14) Ask neighbors to keep checking their security cameras for sightings. Also ask them to post on their camera neighborhood sites the picture and contact information.
